John Herbert Park, 83, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 20, 2019 with his loving wife and family present. John was born on February 5, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio to Lawrence Duane Park Sr. and Sara Martha Wilson. The family later made their way to Fort Worth, Texas where he met and married the love of his life, Rue DeAnn Srygley on August 9, 1957.
John loved working on anything mechanical which led to his service in the United States Air Force for the 14th Flying Tiger, 1077th Bomber Squadron. He was recruited by National Cash Register Company of Dayton, Ohio to become a field engineer and was assigned to the branch in Amarillo, Texas. He later transferred to Pampa to faithfully serve his customers in the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma areas for 33 plus years. John very much had a servant’s heart which intrigued him to be an Eagle Scout leader and a member of the Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ Church. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping with his family and had an uncanny ability of showing up when one of his family members needed him. John was a very kind and humble man who dedicated his life to his family, friends and church and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Mike Towry.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 61 years, Rue DeAnn Park; two daughters, Mindy Park-Liberty and husband George, Cynthia Park Towry all of Pampa; brother, Lawrence (Larry) Duane Park. Jr and wife Louise of College Station; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Sharon Herndon of Oklahoma City; two grandsons, Miles Watkins of Amarillo, Mason Watkins and wife Kristin of Pampa; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you for the loving and attentive care given from the Interim Hospice Staff and home caregivers Jeffie Lowry, Donna Pettit, Lorena Rodriguez, Naomi Blackburn and Tonya Garza.
If memorials are your preference, the family suggests donations be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131; a Veteran’s Charity or one of your choice in memory of John.
Celebration of Life Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ with Reverend Keith Feerer officiating. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
