Ray Jaramillo, vice president of off-campus affairs at Clarendon College Pampa Center, smiled as he shook hands with 9-year-old Hope Hartwig, who smiled right back.
“See that?” Jaramillo asked. “We’re recruiting younger students. How’s that for active recruiting?”
It was a fun break for Jaramillo, though the joke was rooted partly in fact. With enrollment down this semester at Pampa Center — the school has 456 students for the spring, down from 467 last year — Jaramillo and his staff have been busy brainstorming ways to bring students in.
