This afternoon the City of Pampa and Gray County were notified by the Texas Department of State Health Services of 13 new positive COVID-19 (Coronavirus) cases in Gray County.
These new cases bring our overall total to 164. All of these new cases are community spread and all are quarantined in their home.
The State also reported three new recoveries bringing the overall total to 134.
With these new cases today the overall totals read like this: 164 total cases, 134 recoveries, 26 active cases, four COVID-19 deaths. As always the City of Pampa continue to ask you to take all the necessary precautions to make sure you and your families are safe.
County judge Chris Porter put out the following statement in regards to the mask order being rescinded:
“As most of you are aware, there have been discrepancies in the actual case counts reported locally from our DSHS Regional Office in Lubbock, and other State reporting agencies. For the last few weeks Gray County’s numbers have risen and fallen due to recoveries outpacing new active cases. Confirmed positive tests are reported to DSHS through lab results and are reported daily to Gray County. Some days there are no positive test results, some days there are numerous positive test results. Also, Gray County is provided with a weekly report that has every positive case, and all of the information available pertaining to each case i.e. positive test date, address, phone number, recovery dates and more. This local report is the most accurate data available for Gray County. This report contains verified, individual and personal information. This data is not just ‘reported numbers’ like most other State and Federal Agencies are.
“Following a gradual increase in positive cases in Gray County (26 active), the Texas Department of Emergency Management has removed Gray County from exemption for Governor Abbott’s Executive Order GA-29 effective at 12:01 am, July 30,2020. This Executive Order requires wearing a face covering in many circumstances where social distancing cannot be maintained. The Executive Order can be found at: https://bit.ly/2P9dXvs
“This Order, like any other Order or Ordinance, is a compliance measure that can and should be used to gain voluntary compliance. Our active cases are now outpacing our recoveries due to community spread in Gray County. We ask all Citizens for voluntary compliance to help reduce the risks of spreading COVID-19, along with other common-sense measures like frequent hand washing and social distancing. No one enjoys wearing a mask, but the CDC has recently estimated that 40 percent of the population may have no symptoms and may not know they have been infected. Please remember this when interacting with others, especially those most at risk including our elderly population and people with known health problems.
“Once Gray County has had 30 consecutive days of 20 or fewer active cases, the Gray County Judge will reapply for an exemption from GA-29, with the Texas Department of Emergency Management.”
Mayor Brad Pingel also released a statement in regards to the new active cases:
“The city of Pampa will do our part to support Gray County with the result of the new positive case counts. As always we will comply and support Judge Porter and Gray County and Governor Abbott and the State of Texas. Let’s all do our part to ensure the safety of ourselves, our loved ones and our community. We will get through this, together.”
