Big changes and renovations are happening with the Pregnancy Support Center and the Hope House of Pampa. While both organizations work together in conjunction with their overall mission, the two will now merge together into one building.
Monica Galloway, the executive director of the Pregnancy Support Center and the Hope House for the last 24 years, had an idea a while back about bringing the two together.
“This building was given to us in 2010, and it’s just humongous,” she said. “Throughout the years, we’ve had different programs and different things that we’ve done on that side of the building. So it’s always been used for so many good things. But recently with the economy, I thought wouldn’t it be so nice if the Hope House was right here on the same property?”
The Hope House has been in its current location since 2006 and has sheltered single mothers and provided them the tools and skills necessary to be successful in both motherhood and in their own lives.
While it had been a long-standing dream of Monica’s, the dream had become more of a goal that made sense in today’s economy, but she was unsure as to whose ears the idea needed to fall on. That was until two people just happened to walk through the door.
“Rick and Kathy Amerson came by and visited me about what we do here and was just curious about the Hope House and the Pregnancy Center. I’m just talking to them and I take them through this plan I have in my head about renovating over there and I’m telling them where I wanted everything, but it was just an idea. But a couple of days later, they come back with these plans drawn out and I was like oh my gosh, I can see it! It can actually be done! It was just an amazing thing for them to do and take the time and effort to draw them out.”
After seeing the plans drawn out right before her eyes, Monica’s excitement grew, but now how to get started? Demolition and construction are an extraordinarily large expense and as crucial as the Pregnancy Support Center and Hope House’s services are, there can be no room for debt for these non-profit organizations.
But before she knew it, Monica’s worries were lifted once again.
“Then we start talking about the cost and all of the sudden, two volunteers show up and start demo-ing that side and I’m like man, this is actually happening! They’re doing the demo-Travis Reynolds and Will Hahn. They have been working over on that side of the building tirelessly.”
There is no expected date of completion and Monica would rather the renovation be done in phases, because although she is finally seeing her dream come to fruition and there is the excitement and eagerness of seeing the final product, fulfilling the needs of the clients of both organizations comes first.
“We’ve decided to take the plans and take them one phase at a time. Our first priority is to take care of our clients at the Pregnancy Support Center and take care of our residents at the Hope House.”
“It’s coming together more and faster than I expected. When you have people who step up and see the vision and want to be a part of it and they have taken it upon themselves to help, it comes together and it happens.”
