A Man With A Business: Chris Dorn

Posted

ITeck opened its doors in November of 2013, taking up residence in suites 3 and 4 of the NBC Plaza Suites. It was founded by Chris Dorn, the man behind it all with more than 19 years of IT experience. ITeck was a long time in the making and opened with a guaranteed two clients to get the ball rolling. D.E Rice Construction of Borger, along with its associated companies, were the first to back Dorn in his venture to start his own establishment. The second to join the party was ITecks original neighbors in suites 1 & 2, Mills Ranch Co., a ranching company whose owners had known Chris for years and had used his skills and knowledge of all things technology before, were pleased to support him and come on as a client.

Born in Hale Center, Dorn moved generally every two years due to his fathers work in the ministry. He graduated from Snyder High before attending McMurry University. He moved back to Snyder and finished schooling at Western Texas Junior College before diving into the workforce in the electrical field. After working all over the Texas Panhandle, Chris was offered a job in the DFW area. After living in Arlington, the family began to grow, having a young daughter and a son it was deemed best to move back to the Texas Panhandle for the benefit of a small town vibe. Landing in Pampa, Chris began work for CentraMedia in 2004 as the Support Administrator. CentraMedia, a Pampa based company became ERF Wireless before closing its doors.

D.E. Rice Construction in Borger asked Dorn to come on board for IT Support across all the companies that are now valued customers to ITeck. The drive to and from Borger must have led to the pondering and day-dreaming that helped to birth ITeck in years to come. The title of the article perfectly reflects Chris Dorn, a man with a business. From a young age, his parents have stated that he enjoyed taking apart things from radios to television sets to simply see how they worked and operated, before piecing it back together.

Chris Dorn is not only a business owner, but is also a father and grandfather. As he states on the company’s website,  “When I’m not sitting at a desk working, I can be found at a soccer game, choir concert, or any other event my children or grandchildren are involved with. Free time is rare.”

Married in 1992 to Palma Guzman, the couple has three children, two girls and a boy.

What started in two rental suites has recently grown into a new set of shoes. Those shoes being the historic and well-known old Pampa Print Shop, located at 516 W. Kentucky, ITeck has gracefully opened a new set of doors, with the same goal in mind as before. “To grow day by day, and make just a penny more month to month” remains Chris Dorn’s goal since day one and this motto and outlook have helped to grow his clientele across the Texas Panhandle. What started as a dream has grown into something more.

ITeck, as mentioned in the name, is an information technology managed services company. They offer many services, a few of those being managed service, web host and design and pc repair. ITeck monitors all systems for any type of virus or harmful bugs that find their way onto computers that might affect the safety or efficiency of its users. By web hosting and design, ITeck steps into a vendor role for clients in all aspects of building and taking care of any website for whomever or whatever it is needed for. Rather than sending off a broken computer or PC, the locally owned and operated company can take in and service those pieces of equipment that have become essential in today’s world.

ITeck posts to social media, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter as well as a blog on the company site that offers information about safety tips when it comes to computers. The posts are picked by Chris, based on things he finds beneficial and helpful to people that view them.

“Email is prominent in today’s age. Scamming or phishing, as it’s called, is a very big deal many people have the misfortune of running into” Dorn said. ‘‘The best advice is, don’t click a link unless you’re absolutely sure about it. Do not download any links without certainty of them.”

When it comes to general safety tips, Dorn says no two internet users are the same, so advice varies person to person.

“When using the internet, running programs on your devices such as Malwarebytes is a must,” Dorn said these softwares run as often as need to monitor and help get rid of viruses.

“Everyone that owns a computer should have an anti-virus service. That’s step one, there isn’t a 100% guarantee, whether it’s ITeck or personal. The best advice for someone who is not tech savvy, ask questions”

Dorn and ITeck’s main objective in day to day work is to take on the role of helping you stay safe and prevent any hacks or targets to your devices. For more information call -806-665-0485.
