A wonderful season

Posted

December is a wonderful month. I love Jesus and I love Christmas. I celebrate all month long and this will be my 77th one. The Christmas songs in the air bring back all kinds of memories. The decorations on homes, the Christmas trees, Christmas gifts in red, green, gold and silver add to the joy. The yummy Christmas cookies and all the family specials. Rushing out to purchase those last minute gifts, I still like to shop at a mall. The time with those we love and treasure in our lives.

But we have to be careful not to overlook the one gift that gives reason for the season — the virgin birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us,” (Matthew 1:21). The birth of Jesus did not have the comforts we know today in association with Christmas. Mary did not expect to give birth to God’s “only begotten Son” in a manger area for cattle. Joseph never expected when he fell in love with Mary, for her to sleeked by God to birth the Savior of the World. They were far away from home to pay their taxes and also to fulfill Bible prophecy of Jesus’ place of birth. The prophet Micah, hundreds of years before this actual event took place (Micah 5:2). Despite their trials and difficulties, Mary and Joseph believed and trusted God. They had both heard His voice and followed His directions.

Get your Bible and read again the Christmas message. We also can hear God speak to us about this very special season and whey it is important in our world and our individual lives. Friends, be sure you have received this marvelous, loving gift from God — Jesus Christ as Savior.

John tells us about it — “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life,” (John 3:16). Celebrate and praise His Holy Name. Thank you, Jesus!

Have a very special Christmas this year.
