Ace Hardware Store opened their Pampa location, at 1215 N. Hobart in Las Pampas Square, last week and owners Sammy Salinas and Austin Bales said it was a great opening.
“It was awesome,” Bales said. “Pampa really showed out and supported us. It was definitely a busy day. It was a good opening for us.”
The inventory at the Pampa location is not different from other Ace Hardwares as they carry everything from power tools, mowers and grills to plumbing and hardware. They also carry all of the big names.
“We’ve got Stihl, Weber and Traeger,” Bales said. “We’ve got everything you would need for paint, plumbing, electrical, etc.”
Their location inside of an old clothing store leaves plenty of room to grow and input on needs from the community.
“We’ve been asking when people come in here what they need,” Bales said. “We like it when they tell us so we can get that for them and they don’t have to drive to Amarillo.”
Bales said Ace carries more of the name-brand products compared to Home Depot or Lowe’s. Pampa’s Ace location will have 12 to 15 on staff daily, mostly part-time.
“Right now we’re going off what Ace recommends,” Bales said. “I’ve normally got my employees working four-hour shifts and they seem to like that. They won’t get burned out and stay in good spirits.”
Bales and his father, Salinas, are from Borger and felt Pampa was a great location to start up Salinas’ dream of owning an Ace. Opening a store has always been a dream of Sammy’s. So I told him he was always there to help and support me, so I wanted to support him in this.”
“I’ve always liked Pampa,” Bales said. “I think the community is great and the size of the town is great. Sammy worked at Phillips for 25 years and during that he also worked at Ace (in Borger).
The owners of the Borger location have been supportive of Salinas and Bales in opening this location.
“They’re awesome people,” Bales said. “Any questions we’ve had, they’ve helped us. They were here [last Tuesday] when we opened helping us.”
