A.L. “Chunky” Leonard, 96, of Pampa, passed away on October 3, 2021 in Pampa.

Services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Central Baptist Church with Pastor Norman Rushing, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

Chunky was born on March 22, 1925 in Mobeetie to Tassie and Robert Leonard. He attended and graduated from Mobeetie. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. Following his discharge, Chunky returned to the Panhandle, living in Pampa. While in Pampa, he married the love of his life, Monica Marak and they shared 51 years together before she preceded him in death in 2014.

Chunky worked in the sales industry for all his life. He worked as a salesman for C & M TV for a few years before he owned and operated his own store, Leonard’s Furniture. He sold cars for several years at the various Ford and local dealerships. Chunky was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer who loved to golf at both the Pampa Country Club and Hidden Hills golf course. When not golfing, Chunky also enjoyed working in his yard and garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Gary Leonard and Woodie Leonard; four brothers; and two sisters.

His survivors include his daughter, Judy Williams of Pampa; a son, Chris Leonard and wife Kim of Hereford; a brother, Joe Leonard and wife Dolores of Wichita Falls; two granddaughters, Jennifer Williams, and Kayla Leonard, both of Amarillo; five grandsons, Dennis Williams of San Antonio, Aaron Leonard and wife Heather, Steven Leonard, all of Odessa, Ryan Leonard of Dallas, and Jason Leonard of Hereford; six great-grandchildren, Dillon, Madison, Isabella, Jonah, Bentley, and Ivy; and other extended family.
