Altrusa International of Pampa, Texas, Inc. met Feb. 25, 2020 at Pampa Country Club with Brenda Tucker, president, presiding. Kitty Hall and Sheila Winton served as greeters. Virginia Dewey, Lynne Moore, Jenny Bronner, Jean Huckins, Dr. Angela Jones, Darrel Franklin and Kathryn Green attended as guests.

The Accent was given by Maxine Watson on the history of Altrusa. The club was founded in Nashville, Tennessee in 1917 and Mamie L. Bass was the first national president elected at the 1918 convention. There are presently 323 International Altrusa clubs with 8,007 members.

Pat Johnson gave the Nominating Committee report listing the slate of proposed officers for 2020-2021. The election of officers will be held at the March business meeting.

The club voted to donate $200 to PAWS to fulfill a project for “Leap of Kindness Day” proposed by the Chamber of Commerce.

The program was presented by Pastor Ruby Moultrie, First United Methodist church minister and also an Altrusa member. Pastor Ruby grew up loving God and music encouraged by her mother which began at age 3 when she sang “Jesus Loves Me” in her church. She studied music through high school and college and began her teaching career in the field of music in 1977. Most of her teaching positions were paired with a 2nd job as church choir director. Pastor Ruby entered the ministry in 2000 while teaching music at South Plains College in Levelland; she came to Pampa 5 years ago. Inspired by God, she recently authored a book, “Knowing God A-Z”, a personal story of her journey with God being her light and life. Plans are being made for a book signing event to be held at the First United Methodist Church March 29 from 2 to 4 p.m.

A drawing was held for one of Pastor Ruby’s book and was won by Jenifer Richards. Other door prizes were won by Brenda Tucker and Leona Willis.
