Where there’s good to be done, you can bet that Altrusa International of Pampa will be there.
From tons of volunteer hours at the library, schools and a number of other places to the numerous donations made to organizations and departments all around Pampa, the members of Altrusa are considered some of the most hardworking and generous folks that have graced this town.
And they’ve just added to their list of good works.
Altrusa International of Pampa has recently partnered up with Wreaths Across America, an organization that pays tribute to our veterans by placing wreaths on headstones by the millions across more than 4,000 locations worldwide during the holidays.
Pampa has now become one of those locations and the members of Altrusa will be at the forefront of this beloved project.
While many may believe that Pampa would only have a few hundred veteran graves in both the Memory Gardens and Fairview cemetaries, the exact count is actually a much higher number: a staggering 2,475.
Each wreath costs $17, but for each wreath bought, Wreaths Across America gives back a portion of that to Altrusa which will in turn go towards providing help for veterans in Pampa with what needs they may have.
The monetary goal is massive, but through the sponsorships of Intersect Power, Pampa Regional Medical Center, First Bank Southwest, Top O’ Texas Republican Women, Xcel Energy, Hunting, Tireworks Pro, Happy State Bank, The Zone Bowling Center and The Pampa News, that goal is closer to being met.
Laura’s Country Kitchen has also been a big sponsor and is having a fundraiser on Friday, September 27 where they will donate a portion of the day’s sales to the project.
But the funds are not the only support needed: they’re going to need volunteers to help lay the wreaths on December 14. The event will be at both cemetaries; Fairview located at 1560 Duncan and Memory Gardens located at 2215 N. Price, starting at 11 AM.
The Altrusans thank everyone in the community that has helped so far with this project and are looking forward to seeing everyone come together for this special event.

Thank you to the members of Altrusa International of Pampa, TX, Inc. for bringing this to our town and helping us all to Honor, Remember and Teach.
