Mr. Cox was born January 18, 1930 in Crescent, Oklahoma to Harlan and Lillie Cox. Joe graduated from Crescent High School in 1950. He loved playing football for the Crescent Tigers and was a huge Oklahoma Sooner Fan. Joe dedicated his life to his Lord and Savior as very young man. He attended a tent revival with the Reverend Billy Graham...His life was forever changed.

Growing up Joe worked on the grain elevator, various farms and picked cotton with his dad. He enjoyed his life in the small Oklahoma town and was loved by many. Joe was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1953. After serving his country, Joe went to work for the Santa Fe Topeka Railroad. He retired as a welding and rail inspector after 39 years of service. Appropriately he had a love for trains.

Joe met the love of his life, Wanda Mae Shuffield while attending a church service. They were married on August 2, 1958 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They spent 41 wonderful years building the life they loved. Together they had three daughters. Wanda entered her heavenly home on April 24, 1999. They were members of Trinity Fellowship Church in Pampa. Joe was known for his unwavering strength and taught his family so much. He was a devoted father who loved his family. Many wonderful vacations were spent fishing in the mountains of Colorado. He passed his love for fishing to his girls and taught them to clean their catch. Joe’s hobbies included wood carving, camping, and tending his garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Tilda Jane Cox; a brother Robert Joe Cox; and a grandson Brandon Owen.

Joe is survived by his three daughters, Pamela Smith and husband Mark of Pampa, Kandy Owen and husband Robby of Lake Texhoma, and Tracy Washington and husband Tommy of Pampa; seven grandchildren, Josh Smith and wife Bailey and Shannon Fristoe and husband Tyson all of Pampa, Brittney Wesley and husband Mitch of Midlothian, Abbie Armstrong and husband Brandon of Claude, Camron Washington, and Nathan Washington both of Pampa; eight great-grandchildren, Tripp, Teel, Camden, M’Kinley, Dacen, Brylin, Owen, Kylie Jo; a great-granddaughter arriving in September; cousin, Juanita Stewart and husband Wayne of Edmond, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, and Noal Shuffield and wife Linda of Newalla, Oklahoma.
