Baby B’zzz: Comfortable blankets for all

Posted

In 2012, Kristen Murrah welcomed baby Grant into the world and quickly realized that the average baby blanket just wouldn’t work for swaddling him. So, with a problem to solve, she made the first Minky blanket she’d ever made and Baby B’zzz was born.

“It really started because I couldn’t find a big enough baby blanket for Grant. So, my mom said let’s go to the sew shop and get the material to make one for him.” Murrah Said.

While it started in the baby market, offering baby blankets and burp rags, she found a bigger market for adult size blankets that many customers began voicing a request for.

“My business has turned into more adult than baby now” Murrah said.

The baby blanket is a 40 inch by 40 inch. The youth is a 54 inch by 54 inch, which is the average adult size blanket you can find sold in stores, the Baby B’zzz adult blanket stagers that with it being a 60 inch by 72 inch blanket. Made from Minky material, the blankets are noteably soft. Minky is a soft, rich material that holds its softness and washes well. Along with the blankets and burp rags, Baby B’zzz also makes pillowcase, so you can make sure you have plenty of the soft material lying around the house.

“You can’t live without them. There can never be enough,” Murrah said.

With Baby B’zzz, any item can be personalized. All products are made in Murrah’s home, by hand, which helps with the personal approach she takes to this business. The Baby B’zzz head quarters can be found right here in Pampa, inside the home Murrah raises her kids in.

“I love for customers to come into my home, that a way they can see my workshop and all the materials and options I have.” Murrah said,

Minky is not a cheap material to use, but the benefits are well worth the cost. Murrah says that of all the Minky resalers she’s seen, her prices are the most affordable. Her blankets range from $70 to 160, the price difference being size of the blanket or design and customizations added.

The biggest marketplace for Murrah has been through Facebook or her Etsy shop, reaching as far as Pennsylvannia, to Ohio and California. The minky material and durabillity has lead to most sales being to repeat customers who just simply need more Minky in there life.

“Once you’re a customer, everyone in the family wants one.” Murrah said.

With the start of this business being a personal need, Murrah has taken it day-by-day in growing it out and getting into as many homes as she can.

But Baby B’zz isn’t her only job.

“I always wanted this to become full time, but teaching is my passion.” Murrah said.

Murrah has been teaching in the Pampa area and surrounding areas for over a decade now. While she’d love to set her mother and herself up for a lifetime of making blankets, she can’t close that door to teaching the younger generation.

The goal for Murrah is to grow and gain more baby business so she can make the original starting pieces that got her into this.

“Let’s get more Minky into the home.” Murrah said.
