Be happy, don’t worry

Posted

Do you constantly worry about your future? Perhaps you are fearful about your health, your finances, your family or business. When your life is controlled by fear it can affect your health, your judgment, your productivity and your happiness. Jesus asked His disciples “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” (Luke 12:22). Worry is no way to live.

My wife and I were at a conference in Jamaica surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. It was there I first heard Bobby McFerrin’s song, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” It made me smile. Look at the words:

“There’s a little song I wrote

You might want to sing it note for note

Don’t worry, be happy.

In every life we have some trouble,

But when you worry you make it double.

Don’t worry, be happy.

Ain’t got no place to lay your head?

Somebody came and took your bed.

Don’t worry, be happy.

The landlord say your rent is late,

He may have to litigate.

Don’t worry, be happy.

Now in truth, the only one who can protect you from worry and fill your mind with peace is God, who provides for all your news. To receive this benefit you need to know Him as your Savior, and to grow close to Him. He shared our humanity and understands our fears and needs. In Matthew 11, He said, “Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and you shall find rest unto your souls,” (Matthew 11:28-29). You may go through trials, hardships or difficulty but as long as you are yoked with Jesus you will be alright. So as we go into a new year, put your mind on God and not your worries.

Don’t worry, be happy!
