C&A Custom Stitching Embroidery enjoying store-front location

Posted

C&A Custom Stitching Embroidery moved into their store-front location at 113 W. Kingsmill in November 2020, about two years after starting in 2018.

The store-front has given C&A a physical presence in the community and only helped their business to grow.

“A lot of people didn’t even know we were here until we got the store-front,” co-owner Callie Odell said. “The box subscription grew so much that we didn’t have the room to pack it anymore in the shed. We ship to more than 18 states now and we ran out of room.”

The subscription box is among C&A’s most popular items and is the perfect item for sports moms in the bleachers.

“It’s good for sports moms, grandmas and female sports fans,” Odell said. “We customize it to their team’s colors and there’s high school teams, recreation teams, traveling teams, etc. You get four to five items a month and it’s something different each time. We do a lot of monogramming and try to find cool accessories and things that we can use while you’re watching your kids’ games.”

The boxes are tailor-made to any sport, band, martial arts, etc.

Odell and fellow owner April Dyer didn’t have to go far for inspiration on these boxes as the pair have seven kids between them, with most of them heavily involved in sports.

“We’re at the tournaments every weekend,” Odell said. “We’re at the basketball games and have three kids in high school, two kids in junior high, coaches wives and everything else.”

There are also bitsy boxes for the younger female sports fans.

“We have a lot of little girls stealing things from their moms’ boxes,” Odell said. “So we made the bitsy boxes.”

C&A Custom Stitching does embroidery on blankets, hats, sashes, clothes, etc. They can put together letter jackets from start to finish, as well.

“We order the letter jackets and we embroider, make the patches in-house customized to whatever you want,” Odell said. “We have dog patches, car patches, memory patches and expanded the chenille (the yard-based texture on patches) to apparel as well. We can do chenille on hats, sweatshirts, etc.”

C&A also has “elevated” sports gear for those who need to be business casual before hurrying to a sporting event.

“It’s spirit wear and team colors so you can go from work to the game,” Odell said. “That way you can look good, but still go to the game and wear it to both. Polos, dress shirts, etc.”

Dyer said their new location downtown is the perfect fit for them.

“Downtown just kind of chose us,” Dyer said. “It was just the perfect little spot. We didn’t anticipate that happening. We kind of just happened upon it.”
