Carol Preston, 73, of Lefors, passed away on February 13, 2022, in Amarillo.

Celebration of life memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Briarwood Church with Pastor Charles Lowry, officiating. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Carol’s service will be livestreamed thru the funeral home’s website.

Carol was born on March 30, 1948 in Shamrock to Louise and Walter J. ”Sox” Atwood. She grew up and attended school in the Wheeler area. After high school, she married the love of her life, Robert Preston on September 16, 1969 and they had five children and spent almost 17 years before he preceded her in death in 1985. Carol worked and lived in various parts of Texas and New Mexico before permanently settling in Lefors.

Carol was a hard-working woman whose career covered several different industries and roles. She worked in retail at Alco and Walmart, was an Avon representative for several years, and owned and operated her own restaurant, The Food Depot in Chama, NM. But her family brought her the most pride, joy, and purpose. The most important thing to her was having all her family together and to spoil her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepmother, Rosalie Atwood; two brothers, Tommie Atwood, and JC Brooks; a sister, Lanelle Wyatt; a great great-granddaughter, Maeve Morgan; and by an aunt, LaDell Atwood

Carol is survived by two daughters, Dana Davis and husband Brent, and Patsy Warner and husband Dan, all of Lefors; three sons, Dee Preston and wife Kayla of Panhandle, Robert Preston of Jacksboro, and Bobby Preston of Henrietta; three brothers, Roger Atwood of Decatur, Dan Atwood of Beaver, OK, and Roy Chick and wife Dixie of Amarillo; a sister, Nancy Brown of Hobart, OK; 27 grandchildren and spouses; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-greatgrandchildren; 16 foster children; 12 angel babies; 4 exchange students; and other extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Memorial Processing 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38106.
