CASA Derby Days returns after two years

Posted

Derby Days is back, May 7, after a two-year break due to Covid. This year, the event hopes to be bigger than before.

“May 7 we are doing CASA’s spin on the Kentucky Derby. It starts at 4 p.m. at the Pampa Country Club. The first hour is just a cocktail social hour, and then the derby is played live and betting on the horse begins, then we start the bingo game at 6 p.m. for the prizes. We do eight rounds of bingo, and we have some really good prizes for this year.” Alissha Jefferis said.

The bingo game and its prizes are notably the highlight of the event, this year’s prizes range from a Wiskey Grills package to paid trip vacations. The event has been on a two-year break, but it is one of CASA’s big fundraisers that allow them to operate day-to-day.

“CASA is a non-profit organization. We are grant and foundation-funded, along with those we put on two fund raisers to keep the program going. Derby Days is one of those, but we haven’t been able to put it on the last two years. The last year we did it was 2019, so we’re trying to make this one bigger than usual. We’ve had a ton of support from the businesses this year, it’s been amazing.” Jefferis said.

All the information for the event can be found on the Facebook page CASA of the High Plains - Texas, and tickets can be purchased over the phone or in person at the CASA office located at 315 N. Ballard. Tickets are selling fast, so be sure and contact the office at (806) 669-7638.
