Chamber/City pair up for July 4 celebration

This year on Monday, July 4 the City of Pampa and Chamber of Commerce are teaming up for a celebration across the community.

“Because the big area events are on Saturday or Sunday, the things we are afraid will pull the crowd, won’t affect us because we are doing ours on Monday,” Chamber Executive Director Cortnie Patterson said. “We have a 5K that the City is putting on that starts at the Freedom Museum at 8 a.m. The Chamber is doing our Fourth of July parade through the usual route and then everything will transition to Recreation Park.”

The events at Recreation Park will kick off with a hot dog eating contest around 12 p.m. along with a cornhole tournament, fishing tournament, vendors, food trucks and other community organizations.

“It will be very Americana and a home-town celebration with classic family-friendly fun,” Patterson said. “We have plenty of booths available. They can call the Chamber or it’s on our Facebook page where they can register.”

Patterson added the activities need to be fully accessible for all of the community.

“We want it to be things that are free or very inexpensive,” Patterson said. “So families who are feeling the strain from inflation or high gas prices can come out and treat their family to a really fun day without putting a strain on their finances.

“Things like face-painting, crafts and we are going to bring in the building booth that’ll be really fun. We are just hoping people will get creative with games and activities; kind of on a small-scale carnival idea.”

The Chamber of Commerce will be publishing a map closer to the date so the community can plan their afternoon.
