Charles Luther McDowell, 89, of Pampa, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in Pampa.

Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2021 at Hamlin Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Williams, retired Baptist minister, officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Mr. McDowell was born February 13, 1931 to Leonard E. and Essie Jones McDowell in Stonewall County on the family farm near Aspermont.  He was the third of six children.  Charles graduated from Aspermont High School and West Texas State University in Canyon.  He married Ina Rheille Kelly in 1951, she was the love of his life for 69 years.  Charles was a math teacher and loved teaching and always hoped he was making a difference.  During his retirement they lived at Lake Kemp in Seymour and loved growing flowers and keeping up his yard.  Charles was a loving husband and father who dedicated his life to taking care of his son, Kerry, after a work-related accident.  He was known as Pawpaw by his grandchildren.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Revenia; two brothers, Orthell and Doug; and his precious daughter, Kellie.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Ina; three sons, Rick and Elaine McDowell of Miami, Kerry McDowell of Pampa , and Andy and wife Brenda McDowell of Plainview; two sisters, Francis Clifton of Dumas and Barbara Lawrence and husband Dwayne of Aspermont;  nine grandchildren, Camille Cano and husband Junior of Childress, Zach McDowell and wife Pam of Miami, Chas McDowell of Greenwood, Arkansas, Jeremy McDowell and wife Bridgett of Mansfield, Arkansas, Kendra Alverson and husband Garret  of Lawton, Oklahoma, Kelsey Leslie and husband Brennan of Wichita Falls, Kazdy McDowell of Plainview, Reagan Mones and husband Joe of Grand Prairie, and Chrystal Cunningham and husband James of Amarillo;  18 great-grandchildren, Rifle, Laike, Ashleigh, Rickey, Levi, Freedom, Shyann, Sadie, Jocelyn, Thomas, Julianna, Josiah, Steven, Brandon, Amy, Tyler, Ella, and Jesse; and two great-great-grandchildren, Summer and Micah.

His passing will leave a hole in our hearts as he will be missed greatly.
