Children’s Shopping Tour

Bob Marx has been appointed as the General Chair for the 2022 Children’s Shopping Tour. The Tour will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

Marx was born and raised in Pampa. He was a member of the first class ever to attend all five years and graduate from Stephen F. Austin Elementary School in Pampa. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1969 and attended West Texas State University.

Before he retired, Marx owned and operated Nuway Cleaning in Pampa. His wife, Johnnie passed away earlier this year. He is a third generation member of the First Presbyterian Church.

“This project is unique,” Marx said. “It helps children learn that the true meaning of Christmas is giving, not getting.” Children between the ages of 5 and 10 will be invited to attend the tour and will purchase presents for members of their household, but not for themselves. This will be the 60th year the Tour has been held. The Tour was named the Outstanding Service Project in the nation by Optimist International in 2007 and the Outstanding Service Project in the world that same year by Altrusa International.

Marx was the Pampa Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year in 2007. He has been active in the Chamber for more than 20 years. He has served as the Chamber’s Chair of the former Retail Trade Committee, has been on the Chamber Board of Directors as an ex officio member and has served as President and Vice-President of the Gold Coats. He has been the Advisory Board Chair for the Salvation Army. He also donated 18 gallons of blood and platelets to the Coffee Memorial Blood Bank. He was a member of the Appraisal Review Board for six years including serving as Chair during that time and has helped in elections as a Judge and precinct worker.

An avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, he is an Eagle Scout, has served on the District Committee and has helped with Eagle Board of Reviews. He also worked several years on the sporting clays at Camp Don Harrington. Marx is an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He has been the President and Vice-President of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers, Big Sisters. He has been a Muscular Dystrophy “jail bird” three times. He also was a volunteer for Clean Pampa and served as President and Vice President on the Board.Marx served as President and Vice President of the United Way, campaign drive chairman, chairman of budget and allocations. He did radio campaign updates during the United Way drive, for the Chamber Retail Trade committee and for the Salvation Army.
