Christal Lee “Chris” Lowe, aged 92, of Pampa, Texas, answered the precious call of Jesus in the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 11, 2025, with family sitting vigil at his side after a brief, yet hard-fought battle while in the hospital in Amarillo.
Chris, one of seven children, was born on December 20, 1932, to John C. and Allie Mae Lowe on the outskirts of McLean, Texas at mile marker 9.
After graduating from Pampa High School, Chris met his true love, Jacqueline, at the age of 18. Following a few short weeks of courtship, he proposed to her. With parental permission, the couple married on February 27, 1951, when Chris was 18 and Jacqueline was only 15.
Chris initially worked in the oilfield until December of 1953, when he joined the US Navy and served until December of 1956. During his service, he alongside three of his brothers, served on the same ship – the USS Sperry AS-12. Chris and Jacqueline were stationed in Hawaii for a while and returned home following his honorable discharge. He later joined the Pampa VFW Post #1657 where he remained a longtime member.
Chris worked as the parts manager for Tom Rose Motors for several years. In 1964, the family moved to Long Beach, California, where Chris was promised a manager position at an Oldsmobile dealership. However, after 12 years of not receiving the promised position, they returned to Pampa in 1977. Upon his return, Chris reapplied at Tom Rose Motors where his position was still available, and he remained there until his retirement.
Chris had a deep love for animals, particularly dogs, and cherished the time spent with his brothers on their annual deer hunting trips. He was a jack-of-all-trades, lending his handyman skills to friends and family and even taking on painting projects for others. Adhering to the old military moto of “if it stands still paint it, but if it moves salute it” stuck with Chris throughout his entirety. He literally carried a paintbrush in his back pocket to dust trinkets and treasures and he believed a coat of paint every year kept things looking fresh and new.
Another of Chris’s favorite pastimes was yardwork. If he wasn’t mowing, he was sitting on a little braded rug pulling weeds – not just his yard, the neighbor’s yards as well.
Chris was extremely devoted to his family and grandchildren, greatly enjoying attending their various sporting events and cheering for them as their biggest fan. He will be deeply missed by many who loved him.
He was greeted into eternity by his loving wife, Jacqueline Lowe; his parents, John C. and Allie Mae Lowe; his five brothers, one sister, and his in-laws, Helen Holmes Bolton and Cecil Holmes.
Chris’s memories will live on through his son, Cary Lowe and wife Danett of Amarillo; his daughter, Jamie Lockridge of Pampa; four grandchildren, Christopher Lockridge, Lori Lockridge, Josh Lowe and partner Samantha, Jared Lowe and wife Mariana; five great-grandchildren; special friends, Britni Lowe and partner Dustin, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members who all lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Dick”.
A Celebration of Life Funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Winegeart Funeral Home Serenity Chapel with Brother Norman Rushing, officiating and Military Honors being presented by the Naval Reserve of Amarillo. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in honor of Chris to the Pampa Senior Citizens Center, 500 W. Francis St, Pampa, TX 79065.
