The City of Pampa Commissioners met on Monday afternoon for a regularly-scheduled meeting.

It was the first full, regularly-scheduled meeting under the new configuration of the commission.

During the public comment portion, Gray County Judge Chris Porter welcomed the new commissioners and offered to be of service in any way he can.

“I just wanted to come over from the County and let you know I am very excited for the relationship we will have and the relationship we have had for the last two-and-a-half years,” Porter said. “We have a new relationship that has created a lot of cooperation and synergy between Gray County and the City of Pampa.”

Porter offered congratulations to the new Commissioners and lauded the staff at the City of Pampa.

The Commissioners were presented with a new-look financial dashboard to make reading the city budget and finances easier.

In the action items, the commissioners approved an animal services agreement with the City of Howardwick.

City Manager Shane Stokes said this agreement is similar to other small cities in the area.

“We take their animals once they have been through their ordinances and hold them for the amount of time,” Stokes said. “We dispose of them or PAWS (Pampa Animal Welfare Society) takes them and tries to get them adopted. We also take their rabies and quarantined animals.”

Commissioner Paul Searl asked what the average capacity of the Pampa Animal Shelter is, to which Stokes answered usually over 90 percent. Stokes also noted this policy is for short-term needs.

The Commissioners also approved the following items:

• Minutes of the May 3, 2021 Special Meeting, May 10, 2021 Special Meeting/Election Canvass and the May 18, 2021 Work Session, Commission Orientation/Training as presented.

• Adopting Resolution No. R21-019, a Resolution by the City Commission adopting Executive Order GA-34 and extending to June 14, 2021 the City of Pampa’s Declaration of Local Disaster Order.

• Appointing Carl F. Dawson to the Planning & Zoning Commission for an unexpired term beginning May 25, 2021 ending September 30, 2022.

• Approving the List of Disbursements dated April 2021.
