The City of Pampa has been awarded a grant in the amount of $350,000 from the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) for the purpose of improving downtown area.

The Tx CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) Downtown Revitalization Program funds infrastructure improvements to address conditions of deterioration in applicant communities’ downtown or main street areas. The grant program is run by the TDA with Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding. Cities with populations under 50,000 in the State of Texas are eligible to apply and allowable improvements include: sidewalks and lighting, water and/or sewer lines, road construction to include curb & gutter and related drainage, etc. The grant maximum is currently $350,000.

The City of Pampa started pursuing a Downtown Revitalization Program grant in February 2020 and submitted its application at the end of August. Pampa scored twenty-eighth (28th) out of sixty-four (64) applications submitted that year, however, only the top twenty-one (21) applications were funded.

The City Pampa reapplied to the program in May 2021. Pampa scored tenth (10th) out of thirty-three (33) applications in the 2021 Downtown Revitalization Program, and the City of Pampa was funded $350,000 for sidewalk improvements in Downtown Pampa. The initial phase of this project will construct new sidewalks, handrails, ramps, curb & gutter, and associated appurtenances on the east side of the 100 Block of N Cuyler Street and the North side of the 100 Block of W Foster Avenue. This will be the first of a multi-phase project over the next several years as additional funding becomes available.

Construction on phase one is scheduled to begin as early as the Fall of 2022.
