Clarendon College’s industrial maintenance department will hold an open house from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 ahead of the first day of the spring semester on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

“I figure a lot of people probably drive by and don’t really know what there is here,” director of industrial maintenance program David Carr said. “So if we could get some people to come through [they could learn about the program]. Every one is welcome if they are interested in learning, taking classes or if they know someone else who might be interested.”

During the open house the program will show off some of the labs students work in, what is taught and treat guests to refreshments.

Those interested in the program are suggested to have a high school diploma or GED. Carr said the program is targeted to anyone who is good with work involving their hands and are interested in technical work.

“Anybody that is interested in using their hands and technical ability and wants to increase their paycheck,” Carr said. “More education means more money. If you interested in electricity, mechanical, welding, handy around the house and are good with your hands, we can teach you any of the stuff here.”

Many of the jobs this program caters to is close to Pampa or Borger.

“If you know how to work with electrical equipment, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), motors and the things we can teach, you can go a lot of places with it,” Carr said.

The industrial maintenance program will have new equipment coming in for teaching process technology instrumentation.

“It teaches a lot of what they use in plants dealing with level flow, temperature, products, fluids and petro-chemicals,” Carr said. “Applicable to any of the plants in Borger or Pampa.”

Registration and evening registration is on Jan. 20 and the last day to register is Jan. 23. Last day for financial aid is on Jan. 31.

“There is financial aid available because a lot of people think, ‘Oh, well I can’t afford it,” Carr said. “But there is a lot of ways it can be paid for. There’s scholarships, grants, loans, etc. There is so much money out there and most people don’t know it.”
