Concerts return to Woody Guthrie Folk Music Center for the first time since March 2020

The Woody Guthrie Folk Music Center has been honored to host some of the best acts in Folk and Americana music over the last few years. This year is no exception as we welcome our first performer since March 2020 to Pampa. On Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. we will have Dana Cooper in concert.

Dana Cooper is a poetic songwriter, an insightful storyteller, and a rousing musician whose performances engage and inspire audiences around the world. Cooper’s mixture of flat-picking, finger-picking and percussive strumming style is legend among other guitarists. An expressive singer, his voice is ageless, evoking a rich lifetime of experience. Fellow singer songwriter Buzz Holland says “Cooper is a person who can sing like an angel and play like the devil.”

Dana has performed on Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage and the Kerrville Folk Festival where he was nominated for their Hall of Fame. Cooper is the recipient of the 2014 Heritage Musician Award from Pilgrim Center for the Arts in Kansas City, MO, and the 2015 Spirit of Folk Award by Folk Alliance International.

His songs have been recorded by luminary artists such as Claire Lynch, Maura O’Connell, Pierce Pettis, Jonell Mosser, Christine Albert, Trout Fishing in America, Jeannie Burns, and Susan Werner.

He is an integral figure in the Music City songwriting community collaborating with renowned writers including Tom Kimmel, Sally Barris, Kim Carnes, Don Henry, and Kim Richey. Cooper has been invited to participate in songwriting workshops from Belfast to Copenhagen to Austin.

This will be a donation show, which just means there is no set charge for admission but we do ask for donations to help us cover our costs. If you have not been to one of our community concerts make it a point to make this one. Our small venue makes for an intimate show with opportunities to visit with the artist and perhaps purchase some of their merchandise. Come a bit early and learn a little about Woody Guthrie and the beginnings of his musical career here in Pampa at the old Harris Drug store.

And just a reminder, we still have our Friday Night Jam sessions every week at 6 pm. We’d love to see you there.

The Woody Guthrie Folk Music Center is located at 320 S. Cuyler. You can get more information at 806-664-0824 or at www.woodyguthriepampatx.com or check out our Facebook page.
