Connie Jo Checketts, 65, of Pampa, Texas, peacefully passed from this life into eternity with family surrounding her on Monday, June 27, 2022, at her home. She was born on April 4, 1957, in Lamar, Colorado to Virgil and Glenys Stickley.

After attending school in Lamar. CO, Connie earned her cosmetology license (even though she never cut anyone’s hair other than family) then worked very diverse jobs to provide for her family. Over the years, she has been a bank teller, bank manager for World Savings Bank, managed a Pizza Hut, ran a daycare, decorated cakes for a bakery on Berkley Air Force Base, and managed Pump N Munch. Her favorite occupation was being the owner of a disco club where she could show off her dance moves on the lighted floor beneath the rotating disco ball. She was a Jane of all trades and wasn’t afraid to tackle any task to in order to give her family what they needed.

Quite comical, often times sarcastic, always on point and extremely independent are true characteristics of Connie. She wouldn’t ask for help, although she knew she needed to, just to prove a point! Call it mother’s intuition or possibly psychic, but you could not pull the wool over her eyes…she was always one step ahead!

Connie’s beauty radiated to others from the inside out showing her unconditional love of people and even more so, family. Expressing her love through food was a favorite for her and no one could top her cooking nor her baking. Her family could always count on her as their staunchest defender and protector. She leaves a legacy of self-reliance, family values, and service to her children and grandchildren. Her love, laughter, and spitfire personality will be missed by all who knew her.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Glenys Stickley; brother, Don Stickley and a sister, Patricia Wardlaw.

Left to remember her loving kindness, are three children, Markus Checketts and fiancé Joy Rathbun of Montana, Shawn Vinson of Denver, CO, Kelley Vance and fiancé JD Burk of Pampa; brother, Jeff Stickley and wife Misty of Byers, CO; sisters, Kimberly Thyne and husband Kenny of Arapaho, CO, Kristi Garrett and husband D of Grand Junction, CO; 10 grandchildren, Jason, Shannon, Slade, Abigail, Olivia, Nathanial, David, Ethan, Eric and Eliot. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family that she dearly loved.

The family will be holding a private Celebration of Life Memorial service. They have entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
