County Commissioners agree to ARPA stipend to VFDs for fuel

The Gray County Commissioners approved fuel stipends for three area volunteer fire departments on Thursday morning from their ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds.

As the windy wildfire season continues to rage on and fuel prices increase, the volunteer fire departments budgets have felt the hit.

County Judge Chris Porter and the Commissioners agreed to up to $10,000 each to McLean, Lefors and Hoover Volunteer Fire Departments in the form of submission for reimbursement.

“They send us the bill and we will pay it out of the ARPA funds,” Porter said. “I don’t think we are going to be out of this for a while. Everything I’ve seen is the next 90 days we have little to no rain and a lot of hot and dry conditions.”

This stipend is strictly for fuel and the Commissioners approved the action.

The Commissioners Court will also meet on Monday, April 18 at 1 p.m. to consider Active911 Interface Through Tyler Technologies for Gray County with Startup and Initial Yearly Fee Cost for Implementation from the Gray County ARPA Funds.

The Commissioners also approved the following items:

• Minutes of the previous meeting.

• Pay Bills as Approved by the County Auditor.

• County Treasurer’s Quarterly and Monthly Report.

• New Airport Hangar Lease to Michael Moore.

• Airport Hanger Lease Transfer to Randy Reed from Bob Conner.

• Extending County Burn Ban to May 16.

• Accept CLE’s for Commissioner Arrington and Commissioner Hudson
