Darrel Mathis, 48, of Pottsboro and formerly of Colorado, passed away, July 7, 2021 in McKinney. 

Celebration of life memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Keith Feerer of the Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Darrel will be available for viewing from 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Monday, 8:00 AM- 8:00 PM on Tuesday, and 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Darrel was born on January 24, 1973 in Oklahoma City to Donna and DeWayne Mathis. As a young boy, his family moved to Liberal, KS where he grew up, attended school, and played high school football. After graduating, he moved to Dallas where he began his career in the roofing and rain gutter industry. Darrel relocated to Denver and started his own business, AAA Custom Seamless Gutter. Darrel was married to Glenda Pauper for twenty years before she preceded him in death on May 20, 2018. He did find love again when he met Melia Walton and they married on June 24, 2019.  

In February 2020, Darrel and Melia moved to Pottsboro to be closer to his family. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and he especially loved spending time on Lake Texoma with his Uncle Dennis and Aunt Karol. He was a longtime and dedicated Kansas City Chiefs fan and he tried to never miss a game. Darrel will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

Darrel was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gene Dougherty; and by his first wife, Glenda.

His survivors include his wife, Melia Mathis; a daughter, Melissa Walton of Sherman; a step-daughter, Grayson Beuhler and husband Chad of Parker, CO; and their children, Taye Beuhler, Trace Beuhler, and Tegan Beuhler, all of Parker, CO; his mother, Donna Mathis of Shattuck, OK; his father, DeWayne Mathis of Shattuck, OK; a sister, Donell Craig and husband Shapley of Weatherford, OK; a grandmother, Zetha Dougherty of Pottsboro; three uncles, Terry Dougherty of Stinnett, Rick Dougherty and wife Melissa of Denham Springs, LA, and Dennis Dougherty and wife Karol of Pottsboro; and by other extended family.
