Dimmitt man killed after collision with a deer

A Dimmitt man is killed after striking a deer two miles east of Dimmitt on Sunday evening.

At 7:20 p.m. Sunday, Van Hopson, 64, Dimmitt, was driving a 2003 Harley Davidson Road King motorcycle two miles east of Dimmitt on State Highway 86.

Hopson struck a deer in the road and was thrown from the motorcycle and died on the scene. 

He was pronounced dead by Castro County justice of the peace Stephen Taylor.

Hopson was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation. Information may change, be corrected, or added based on the investigators findings.
