A Dimmitt man was killed in a single-vehicle rollover 4.6 miles south of Umbarger in Randall County.

At 10:20 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, a 2004 Ford F-150 was driving north on Farm-to-Market 168. The driver, Diego Tino-Thomas, 39, Dimmitt, failed to drive in a single lane due to the high crosswinds.

The driver’s right-side tires traveled into the northbound barrow ditch. The driver over-corrected the steering in an attempt to get back onto the roadway and lost control of the vehicle. The truck skid across the southbound lanes into the southbound barrow ditch and rolled over. The unsecured driver and passenger, Iris Ocon-Zubia, 24, Dimmitt, were ejected from the vehicle.

Ocon-Zubia and a four-year-old female were transported to Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries. Tino-Thomas was transported to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died from the injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by Texas Highway Patrol Troopers. Information may change, be corrected, or added based on the investigators findings.
