DPS seizes 118 pounds of marijuana in traffic stop

AMARILLO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized 118 pounds of marijuana Thursday, Oct. 10, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Oldham County.

At approximately 9:07 a.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2010 Honda Ridgeline traveling east on Interstate 40 near Vega, for a traffic violation. The Trooper then discovered multiple vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana inside the rear area of the vehicle.

DPS Special Agents were contacted and assisted with the investigation.

The driver – Patrick Gallagher – and passenger – Richard Nicholson, both of Amarillo, were arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana. Gallagher, 55, and Nicholson, 37, were transported and booked into the Oldham County Jail. 

The drugs allegedly were being transported from Bakersfield, California to Wichita Falls, Texas.
