DPS traffic stop leads to 437 pounds of THC seized

AMARILLO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized more than 437 pounds of THC Thursday afternoon after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Carson County.

At approximately 1:15 p.m. on March 17, 2022, a DPS Trooper stopped a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling east on I-40 near Conway for a traffic violation. A DPS canine unit arrived on scene and alerted on the vehicle. The Trooper then discovered 140 glass jars of THC concealed inside multiple boxes in the second and third row seating area.

The driver, John Caruso, 59, of Redondo Beach, California, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Caruso was transported and booked into the Carson County Jail.

The drugs were reportedly being transported from Los Angeles, California to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
