Elaine Morris looks to return to Gray County with Treasurer bid

After taking some time off in 2019 to care for her late mother and spend time with her grandchildren, Elaine Morris (former Gray County Auditor) is looking to return to Gray County as she runs for County Treasurer against Barb Hahn.

“I feel like I still have talents to offer and I feel like Gray County Treasurer’s Office is a great place to serve the County,” Morris said. “Gray County is what I know.”

Morris is familiar with the County Treasurer’s office from her 22 years as the County Auditor and feels like that familiarity will help for an easy transition should she be elected.

“As the County Auditor I was familiar with all of the County Departments and all assets of Gray County,” Morris said. “I’m familiar with all fee offices and worked closely with (outgoing treasurer) Scott Hahn on payroll and oversaw aspects off his office as well.”

Morris noted she is also familiar with the software the County uses and is well-versed in all aspects of the Treasurer’s Office.

Morris said the duties of the Treasurer’s Office is to “receive all moneys coming into the County, disperse all moneys and to account for all of the assets through the bank process.”

“Those are the statutory duties and, in Gray County, the Commissioners Court has delegated payroll and human resources to that office,” Morris said.

The field of finance is a field Morris has throughly enjoyed and is very comfortable handling funds for the County.

“I’m familiar with it and I’m comfortable,” Morris said. “I would go into this office knowing what to expect and, of course, I have a degree in accounting as a CPA. The finance of it is my area of expertise. I feel comfortable saying I think I can do a great job.”

Morris said what sets her apart is her experience in Gray County and the familiarity with the staff in the Courthouse.

“I have a knowledge of Gray County and the policies/procedures in Gray County,” Morris said. “I already have relationships with all of the offices, as well.”

Morris has lived in Pampa for 26 years and is married to her husband of 40 years, Rick, and have two daughters, both of whom graduated from Pampa High School. She also has five grandchildren.

Morris serves on the Board of Directors for Tralee Crisis Center, is a member of the Top O’ Texas Republican Women and said family is her nearest and dearest priority. Her family attends Hillside Christian Church.
