Gaye Whitehead Honored

The Gray County Commissioners Court had a regular session meeting.

County Judge Chris Porter began the meeting by honoring Gaye Whitehead for 38 years of service as the County Tax Assessor-Collector.

“In 1985, Ronald Reagan was President of the United States. The Dow Jones finished at 15,046. The Federal Interest Rate was at 10.75 percent. The average income per year was $22,100. The average monthly rent was $375. The average new car was $9,005. A gallon of gas was $1.93. A movie ticket was $2.75. A Postage stamp was 22 cents. New Coke was introduced. Route 66 was removed from the US Highway System. [Michael] Jordan’s rookie year was in 1985. And you got hired on to Gray County,” Porter said.

Porter expressed his appreciation to Whitehead, who will be enjoying her well-deserved retirement.

“I want you to know that you are sorely appreciated and I wish you nothing but the best,” Porter said.

Whitehead took a moment to express her thanks.

“Thank you very much. Thank you to everybody sitting in this courtroom,” Whitehead said. “Thank you for all your support throughout 38 years.”

Once honoring Whitehead concluded, Porter swore in Christy Johnson, the new Gray County Tax Assessor-Collector.

Consider 2 Year Agreement Extension of the Depository Agreement with Happy State Bank - Motion to Position Approved

• Consider Transfer of Hangar Lot #45 @ Perry Lefors Airport from Stephen Martin to Lloyd Ty Koone - Approved
