Gerald Loyd Marlar

Gerald Loyd Marlar went to be with Jesus on July 30, 2021 at the age of 87. He was prepared for the journey and was surrounded by his family to usher him into his heavenly home.

A celebration of life will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 7, 2021 with a reception following at the First United Methodist Church in Duncan, Oklahoma with Rev. Rudy Freese officiating. Live streaming will be available at www.duncanfumc.org/fumc_live. Service will be under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home of Duncan, OK.

Gerald was born October 3, 1933 in Overton, Texas to the late Robert Franklyn Marlar (Bob) and Viola Annamay (Kindy) Marlar.

He spent most of his childhood in Pampa, Texas attending Pampa High School before being drafted into the U.S. Army for two years. He married Jacquelyn Sue Hoyler February 13, 1958 in Pampa, TX and to this union they were blessed with two children. As a young adult he enjoyed water skiing, figure skating and participated in professional roller derby. He and Jackie originated and coached the Pampa Dolphin AAU Swim Team. They resided in Pampa until moving to Duncan, Oklahoma in 1972.

Gerald worked in the oilfield all his life with Skelly, Getty Oil, Texaco, and retired from Chevron in 1998. Gerald’s passion was serving others and for 25 years found joy in refurbishing bicycles for the Duncan Toy Shop and volunteering for Duncan Christians Concerned for 30 years. He also served weekly meals with Break Bread. Gerald served on the Velma Credit Union Board as well as the Lawton District Salvation Army Board. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church participating in mission trips, serving as youth leader sponsor, various committees and a member of the Church Builders Sunday School Class.

Gerald’s hobbies included electric garden trains, oilfield history, stock market, square dancing, home improvement projects and travel.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jacquelyn Sue (Hoyler) Marlar of the home; son, Gerald Loyd (Jerry) Marlar, Jr. of Duncan, OK; daughter, Krista (Marlar) Yadon and husband Trent Yadon of Woodward, OK; 5 grandchildren: Sarah (Marlar) Reed of Marlow, Nathan Marlar of Duncan, LeAnn (Yadon) Alland and husband Patrick Alland of Fort Worth, TX, William Yadon of Woodward, and Natalie Yadon of Woodward; 2 great grandchildren, Jenika and Jewlissa Reed of Lawton; sister-in-law, Lynn (Hoyler) Samples of Edmond; brother, Bobby Marlar and wife Gloria of Pampa, TX; sister, Geraldine (Marlar) Shirley and husband Gene of Belleville, TX; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
