Hope Scribner, the 16-year-old daughter of Garrett and Carisa Scribner, was recognized as Gray County’s 2024 Gold Star Award recipient at the 67th Annual Gold Star Banquet held this week at West Texas A&M University in Canyon.
The Gold Star Award is the highest honor a 4-H member can receive at the county level, awarded to those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, community service, and dedication to the 4-H program.
Hope has been an active member of Gray County 4-H for the past eight years, excelling in a variety of livestock projects, including Beef, Goat, Swine, and Poultry. Her leadership roles include serving as a Gray County Livestock Ambassador, Junior Project Leader, and Livestock Mentor. She has generously shared her expertise through showmanship clinics, helping younger exhibitors improve their skills and succeed in the show ring.
Competing in livestock shows has been a passion for Hope, and her hard work has earned her numerous accolades. Some of her notable achievements include Breed and Reserve Breed Champion titles, Grand Champion Goat, and Showmanship Champion. One of her proudest moments came in 2024 when she won Reserve Champion Shorthorn at the Austin Livestock Show, a testament to her dedication and the skills she has honed through 4-H.
The Gold Star Award is given to the most deserving senior 4-H members who have exhibited leadership by serving in various capacities within their club or county and have participated in community service activities. It may be received only once in a 4-H member’s career and serves as a recognition of their achievements and contributions to the 4-H program.
