The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is working alongside Lubbock community partners to present a Growing Up Healthy event on Feb. 8.
This event will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Buckner Family Hope Center, 1510 S. Loop 289 in Lubbock.
There is no cost to attend. Snacks and lunch will be provided by event sponsors.
“Growing up can be a hard process for both parents and teens,” said Nancy Treviño, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension urban youth specialist, Lubbock. “This program will help participants learn more about reproductive health and gain tools to more effectively communicate within their families about health choices.”
The event will have educational presentations and a resource fair. There will also be childcare available for families attending with younger children.
The event is geared toward youth ages 10-15 and their caregivers. Growing Up Healthy will focus on the physical changes that occur during the teen years, how to talk to youth about health and hygiene, statistics regarding reproductive health concerns and ways to reduce risky behaviors.
“This event is designed to help youth and their families to better understand some of the physical, mental and emotional changes and challenges that come with growing up,” said Treviño. “We aim to provide families with the information they need to help navigate the potentially difficult waters between adolescence and adulthood.”
