James Alice Grays

James Alice Grays, 81, of Pampa passed away on November 15, 2021 in Pampa.

Celebration of Life will be 10:00 AM Saturday, November 20, 2021 at St. Mark CME with King Priest Billy Woodard officiating.  Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Alice was born March 8, 1940 in Wellington to James Harris and Jovana Dawkins. She moved to Pampa at the early age of 5.  She attended school at Carver High School and went on to cosmetology school in Fort Worth. Alice was the oldest of 6 and she helped raise all her younger siblings as they grew up. She married Thomas Grays on June 9, 1959 in Pampa and he passed away in September of 2006.  Alice drove for Panhandle Transit for over 15 years.  She also worked at a daycare for several years before opening the Step Ahead Day camp.  She worked there for several years.  She loved to cook, bake, play cards, and was the Bingo Queen.  Alice was very outspoken, and she wasn’t afraid to tell you what she was thinking.  She was a long-time member of St. Mark CME. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Grays; sister, Mary Baker; 2 brothers, Randy Harris and R. L. Harris; daughter, Cassandra Watkins; and a granddaughter, Kamisha Grimes.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Patrice Grays of Amarillo and Sheila Evans of Pampa; 2 sons, Thomas K. Grays and Kizer Kip Grays and wife Myrna all of Pampa; 2 brothers, Rudolph Harris and Charline and Danny Ray Harris and wife Debbie all of Pampa; 8 grandchildren, Raynessia Oliver-Wall and husband Patrick, Kamisha Grimes, Kedrick “Rick” Grays, Kaydrian Grays, Kendra Grays, Kizer Williams, Darius Grays, and Bryson Grays; 3 great grandchildren, Kareana Brown, Karajah Grays, and Kariah Grays; also her special friends, Phyllis and Porter Briggs.

A special thank you to Interim Hospice Care, Charletha Hunnicutt, and Tastazia Ledet for the care they gave to Alice.
