Jerry Don Oliphant, 80 of Big Spring, went to be with Jesus Tuesday, February 2, 2021. He will lie in state at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, Friday, February 5, 2021 from 8:30 am until 9:00 pm.  Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born in Haskell, Texas to parents Talmage Oliphant and Agnes (Ammons) Oliphant on July 17, 1940. Jerry was a resident of Big Spring for 58 years, where he met Dianne Banks and married her August 6, 1966.

Jerry graduated from Pampa High School is Pampa, Texas.  He went on to further his education at West Texas State University where he graduated with his Bachelor’s in Business Administration.  He came to Big Spring with the Cabot Corporation until the plant closed in 1980.  He started working for Texas Electric Service Company as their accountant and retired from there in 1999 as the administrative assistant.  The following Monday Jerry took over as CEO of Electric Utilities Employees Credit Union and retired completely in 2006.  He continued to volunteer at East Fourth Baptist Church as the office manager for over ten years.

Jerry was a very talented musician. He played the organ for East Fourth Baptist Church for 53 years. He was also a member of the Singing Men of West Texas for 20 years. He served as a Deacon for East Fourth Baptist Church as well as First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dianne Oliphant; sons, Bryan Oliphant and wife Kimberly and Brandon Oliphant; grandsons, Braeden Waldrop, Garret Conner, and Tanner Weeaks; nephews, Jasper Jowers, and Cory Oliphant; niece, Cristy Allison, as well as numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Keith Oliphant and a sister, Frances Jowers.
