John “Snowbird” Andrew Johnson II, 65, of Pampa, passed from this life peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 following a brief and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Cremation is under the direction of Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation Services of Amarillo. Burial and memorial service at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Pampa will be scheduled after the first of the year.

John was born June 20, 1956 in Landstuhl, Germany while his father was stationed overseas. He grew up in Pampa, TX and graduated from Pampa High School in 1974. He married the love of his life, Judith Rheaume, on September 25, 1980. John was a big man with a big personality to match. In high school he was known for being a jokester with a great smile and the life of any party. He was an extremely hard worker and loved a job well-done. He spent most of his adult life working in the oilfield trucking industry. He was employed by Leonard Hudson in Pampa for many years, and most recently worked in the San Antonio area for Aveda Transportation and Energy Services. John was a man who said exactly what he thought, sometimes bluntly, yet underneath that tough exterior was a huge heart. He loved kids and animals, and he will be remembered as a loyal friend to many. The greatest joy of his life was being a father and grandad, and he recently retired to move home and spend more time with his family.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Johnson; his father, Paul Johnson; his grandson, Richard Baker; and his sister-in-law, Cindy Medley.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Johnson of Kerrville; three sons, John Johnson and wife Ashleigh of Pampa, Joe Johnson and wife Lacie of Amarillo, Scott Grubitz and wife Niechelle of Elk City, OK; one daughter, Rikki Baker of Elk City, OK; two sisters, Jan Rosier and husband Mike of Kerrville, Paula Ruddick and husband Randy of Thornton, CO; and ten grandchildren, Drew, Grayson, and Everleigh Johnson, Presley and Foster Johnson, Aubrey, Ben, and Tatum Grubitz, Tyler and Matthew Baker.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Texas Oncology of Amarillo, High Plains Senior Care Hospice, and Joe and Lacie Johnson for the care John received in his final months of life. Donations in John’s name can be made to the Texas Oncology Foundation.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside memorial service in John’s honor on Saturday, January 22, at 12:00 pm at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Pampa, 2215 N Price Rd.  A visitation will follow from 12:30-3:00 pm at the parlor of First Baptist Church of Pampa, 203 N. West St.  In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name can be made to the Texas Oncology Foundation.
