Julius “Junior” Hollis, 85, of Canyon, formerly of Pampa, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 in Canyon.
Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, February 17, 2020 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with his grandson, Rev. Chad Scarborough, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Hollis was born September 8, 1934 in Harvest, Alabama to Lewis Carol and Mollie Florence Hollis. He attended schools in Knoxville, Tennessee and moved to Texas in 1949. He married the love of his life, Annie Mae Whisenhunt on September 6, 1952 in Portales, New Mexico, and have celebrated 67 years of marriage. In 1952 they moved to Pampa and then moved to Spearman in 1965. Finally, in 1983 they moved to Canyon so Annie could finish her college education. He worked for Sears as appliance repair technician for 12 before he started Hollis Service Center. Junior retired in 1983. During his retirement he enjoyed being a nostalgic collector of items from flea markets and garage sales. He loved working outside and taking care of his yard, driving around the neighborhood several times a day checking on the neighbors, and most of all being Pa to his grandchildren.
Junior is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Clarence Edward Hollis and Floyd Maples Hollis; 3 sisters, Mildred Thomas, Stella Cummings, Doris Givins, 3 sons, Donnie Julius Hollis, Johnny Seaborn Hollis, and Ronald Dale Hollis; a grandson, Jay Allen Scarborough.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Mae Hollis of the home; 4 daughters, Judy Martin and husband David of Canyon, Kay Portillo and husband Lupe of Pampa, Janet Scarborough and husband Andy of Hurst, and Darla Pearson and husband Calvin of Logan, New Mexico; a son, Randy Allan Hollis of Canyon; 2 sisters, Bertha Beatrice Gilbert of Fife, Alabama and Eunice Marie Wright of Cleveland, Tennessee; 2 brothers, George Lewis Hollis of Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma and Ralph Carol Hollis and wife Seba of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
