Lady Harvesters Defeat Hereford 8-5, Stay Tied for First Place

On a beautiful day at Lady Harvester field, the Pampa Lady Harvesters defeated the Hereford Lady Whitefaces 8-5 to stay in a three-way tie for first place with Randall and Canyon.

With Hereford leading 2-0, Pampa would scratch a run across in the bottom of the first. Carsyn hit was credited with a two-out double to past the shortstop and Kynleigh Kirby would single to left field to score Hunt from second base.

Pampa would tie the game in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Cassidy Stanhope would draw a walk. With two outs, Reagan Dyer hit a triple off the right field fence that scored Stanhope from first base.

The score would remain 2-2, until the bottom of the fourth. Stanhope led off with a hit by pitch and Maecie Hawthorne followed with a double to left-center field, putting runners at second and third. Reagan Dyer then followed with a ground ball to short that pulled the first baseman off the bag, scoring Stanhope from third and advancing Hawthorne to third. Hawthorne would eventually score on a wild pitch, making the score 4-2 after four innings.

In the fifth, Pampa would add two more runs. With one out, Cambree Dyer reached an error. Hallie Hawthorne forced out Dyer at second base on a ground ball. Maecie Hawthorne then delivered a two-out single to score Hallie from second. Reagan Dyer then hit a ground ball that was misplayed by the shortstop, allowing Stanhope to score, making the score 6-2.

Hereford would make things interesting, by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth, making the score 6-5. However, Pampa would add two insurance runs at the bottom. McKinley Daniels singled with one out and scored on a double by Kirby. Gonzalez again running for Kirby would score on a single by Hallie Hawthorne, making the score 8-5.

In the top of the seventh, Hereford would get a two-out double, but would not be able to score any runs, and the game would end in Pampa’s favor by a score of 8-5.

With the win, Pampa remains in a three-way tie with Randall and Canyon who also won their games. All three teams have an 8-2 record, with four games remaining. Dumas and Borger are now tied for fourth place at 6-4. West Plains is in sixth place at 2-8, Hereford in seventh place at 1-9, and Perryton in last place at 0-10. Hereford and Perryton have been eliminated from playoff contention.

This week, Pampa will travel to Perryton on Monday and host Borger on Friday.
