Lady Harvesters Fall to Canyon 3-2

Posted

On a hot, windy day at Lady Harvester Field, the Lady Harvester softball team lost a heartbreaker to the Canyon Lady Eagles by a score of 2-1.  With the loss, Pampa drops into a tie with Randall at 10-3.  Dumas is a game behind at 9-4.

Canyon would score their only two runs of the game in the top of top of the first inning, after a lead off single, a stolen base and two back-to-back two-out singles.

In the bottom of the fifth, and down by a score of 2-0, Pampa would make some noise. Brianna Cloud led off with a single and Briley Daniles laid down a sacrifice bunt moving Cloud to second.  Carsyn Hunt then lined a 2-1 pitch to right center field scoring Cloud from second base.  However, that would be the end of the rally.

Pampa would leave eight runners stranded on base and twice left a runner at third base.  Defensively, Pampa committee no errors.  Hunt was 1-4 with an RBI double, Kynleigh Kirby was 2-3, with a single and a double, Hallie Hawthorne was 1-3 with a single and Brianna Cloud was 1-3 with a single.

Kynleigh Kirby was solid in the circle for Pampa, pitching seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking four.

With the win, Canyon moves into solo first place at 11-2 and only needs to beat Hereford Friday to claim the district championship.  Pampa moves into a tie with Randall for second at 10-3.  Dumas remains in fourth place just a game behind Pampa and Randall.

The playoff scenarios for Pampa are as follows:

With a win vs Dumas and a Randall win over Perryton, Pampa and Randall would be tied for second at 11-3.  Since they split the season series, a tiebreaker game would be played for second place.

With a loss to Dumas, Randall would claim second place and Pampa and Dumas would then tie for third place.  That season series also would be a split, so a tiebreaker game would be held between Pampa and Dumas for third place.

If Canyon loses to Hereford and Randall and Pampa wins, there would be a three-way tie for first place, between Pampa, Canyon, and Randall.

Pampa, Canyon, Randall, and Dumas have all locked up a playoff spot, with the actual seedings still to be determined.
