Lady Harvesters Fall to Canyon 6-2

The Pampa Lady Harvesters suffered their first loss in district play Friday, falling to the Canyon Lady Eagles by a score of 6-2.  Pampa falls to 5-1 in District 4-4A play and 13-3 overall. 

Canyon would score two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Pampa would fight back in the top of the second inning to tie it up. Kynleigh Kirby led off with a walk.  Karina Gonzalez would come in to courtesy run for Kirby.  Cambree Dyer would follow with a ground ball to shortstop.  However, the shortstop made a throwing error to first base and then the Canyon first baseman made a throwing error trying to throw Gonzalez out headed to third base.  Gonzalez would score on the throw and Dyer would advance to third base. With one out, Brianna Cloud laid down a sacrifice bunt, that would allow Dyer to score on the throw to first base.

In the bottom of the fourth, Canyon would add two more runs, followed by two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Pampa would not score again and Canyon gets the win 6-2 over Pampa. The loss ended a 12-game winning streak for Pampa.

Kynleigh Kirby pitched six innings, giving up 6 runs (4 of those earned) on seven hits, striking out 5 and walking 2.

In other District action, Borger surprised previously unbeaten Dumas by a score of 7-6 and with the loss Dumas falls to 5-1 in district play.  Randall defeated Hereford, to improve to 4-2, and Hereford dropping to 1-4.  The score of the West Plains and Perryton game was not available at press time.   

Pampa will host Dumas on Tuesday with the winner taking over sole possession of the district lead at the halfway point. Canyon and Randall are a game behind at 4-2 and Borger is two games out at 3-3. Hereford, West Plains and Perryton are at the bottom of the district.
