Lady Harvesters fall to Dumas Demonettes

The Pampa Lady Harvesters (21-14, 2-4) hosted Dumas to start their second round of District play on Tuesday evening. The Lady Harvesters fell to the Demonettes in three sets (25-21, 25-15, 25-18). “You can start with serving errors (on the loss),” Head Coach Kaylee Samulowitz. “We missed 13 serves and any time you give a good team like Dumas easy points they are going to make it hurt. I told the girls, the whole crowd is saying ‘Believe in yourself’ and ‘You can do this’ and it’s like they never looked like they believed that. I think we’ve got a lot of mental things we need to fix to get them going.” The Lady Harvesters have seen a lot of growth from their freshmen: Zoe Downs (two kills, one dig), Mazi Smith (four kills, three aces and a dig) and Maecie Hawthorne (22 assists, an ace, two digs). “They are both super inexperienced in these games that keep getting bigger and bigger,” Samulowitz said. “They are doing a good job handling pressure and are kids that work super-hard all of the time. Zoe (Downs) she brings energy to our team and I love that about her. She is also one that you never have to worry about her being confident, because she is. She comes out and works hard. Mazi (Smith) is a great player for us and adds a great presence for us.” The Lady Harvesters host Borger on Saturday in their second meeting of the season. Game time is at noon. “I feel like we need a game where we just play well, even if we don’t win. That wasn’t [Tuesday] (against Dumas). Hopefully we can turn things around and get going in the right direction on Saturday.” Stat round-up: Mikalie Floyd had 14 kills, one ace and two digs; Mazi Smith had four kills, three aces and one dig; Hallie Hawthorne had four kills and one dig; Zoe Downs had two kills and one dig; Haley Fossett had 17 digs; Maecie Hawthorne had 22 assists and two digs; Ariel Lacher had a kill and 11 digs; Valeri Anguian had six digs.
