Lady Harvesters Shutout West Plains 11-0

Coming off of an 8-2 non-district record, Pampa would face off against the West Plains Lady Wolves to open up District 4-4A play on Tuesday in Amarillo.

Hoping to get off to a good start, this game was all Pampa from the beginning. Pampa would score two runs in the top of the first. Carsyn Hunt led off with a triple to right center field and Brianna Cloud. Hunt was thrown out trying to score on a bunt from Cassidy Stanhope. With two outs and Cloud and third and Stanhope at second, Hallie Hawthorne hit a hard ground ball that was misplayed by the West Plains second baseman allowing both runs to score.

The score would remain 2-0, until the top of the fifth, when Pampa would add three runs, making the score 5-0. Cloud was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. With one out, Kynleigh Kirby hit a double to right center field, scoring Cloud from first base. With two outs, Cambree Dyer would single to center field to score Kirby. Back-to-back walks to Reagan Dyer and Briley Daniels, would load the bases. Cambree Dyer would eventually score on a wild pitch, for the third run of the inning.

In the top of the sixth, Pampa would add two more runs to take a 7-0 lead. With one out, Stanhope lined a double to left field, and then third base when the left fielder misplayed the ball. Hallie Hawthorne would then reach base on another error, scoring Stanhope from third base. Karina Gonzalez would pinch run for Hawthorne, and would advance to second base on a throwing error by the catcher. Gonzalez would score on a two-out single by Cambree Dyer.

In the top of the seventh, Pampa would put the game away with four more runs, making the score 11-0. Briley Daniels led off with a walk. Daniels would then steal second base. McKinley Daniels then reached on an error moving Briley to third base. Hunt would reach on an infield single scoring Briley Daniels from third base. Cloud would then single up the middle, and McKinley Daniels was thrown out at home. On the play Hunt would advance to third and Cloud to second. Stanhope would then score Hunt and Cloud on a double to left field. Hallie Hawthorne would then double to center field, scoring Stanhope, to round out the scoring.

Kynleigh Kirby went the distance in the circle for Pampa, pitching seven innings, giving up no runs on two hits, striking out a season high 15 batters and walking 5. At one stretch, Kirby struck out nine straight batters.

Offensively, Hunt and Stanhope each had three hits apiece. Cambree Dyer added two hits, along with two RBI’s. Cloud, Kirby, Hallie Hawthorne, McKinley Daniels each added one hit each.

With the win Pampa moves to 1-0 in district play and will host the Randall Lady Raiders at 4:30 on Friday March 10th. In other district actions, Randall defeated the Borger Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday by a score of 14-9 and Dumas beat Canyon by a score of 11-4. Results of the Hereford/Perryton game were not available by press time.
