Laura Inez Vandever went to be with Jesus on March 15, 2023 at her home in Mobeetie, surrounded by loved ones.

Laura was born on March 7, 1936 in Borger, Texas to Harold Franklin “Joe” and Josie Helen (Skiver) Phillips. The oldest of six children born to the couple. The family lived in Borger and Corpus Christie before settling in Dumas, where she met Dale R. Vandever.

Dale and Laura were married on June 26, 1954 in Clayton, New Mexico. To this union, five children were born: Pamelia Ann, twins Jerry Dale and Janet Lynette, Katherine Sue and Ronny Dale. The family lived in Dumas, Broken Bow, Oklahoma and Pampa before settling in Mobeetie in 1972. She worked at Parkview Hospital in Wheeler for 29 years, retiring in 2002.

Laura was a beautiful person inside and out. She loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, soul and strength and she loved her family without measure. She loved to sing and had a very lovely voice and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mobeetie. She would give you her last dollar and the shirt off her back if she thought you needed it more.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers - Bobby Harold Phillips and William Phillips, two children - Jerry Dale Vandever and Janet Hefner, granddaughter Becky Jo Light and brother-in-law Jimmie Barnes.

She is survived by her children Pam Light and husband Jim of Miami, Texas, Kathy Shorter and husband Donnie of Idabel, Oklahoma, Ronny Dale Vandever and wife DeAnna of Mobeetie and son-in-law Rick Hefner. Eleven grandchildren – Jimmy Dale Light, Christina Cloud, Jennifer Bertrand, Chad Hefner, Michelle Carter (Phillip), Angelia Smith (Glenn), Micheal Shorter (Taryn), Byron Light (Sara), Jeremy Hefner (Marcy), Raysha Walker (Justin) and Ryan Dale Vandever (Reba). Twenty-seven great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Sisters – Sue Barnes, Kay Barton (Donnie) and Lig Johnson (Jimmie), numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be a private graveside service and burial in the Mobeetie Cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler and officiated by Travis Leamon. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Mobeetie Fire Department.
