Let your light shine

Posted

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Getting things ready for Sunday is just something that I have done for years. I make sure that I do what is needed to ensure that I have my sermons ready as well as making sure that I have any other chores done. This past Saturday I was going through what all needed to be done then Vicki said something that made me think of something else.

She mentioned that this was the Saturday when we would ‘fall back’ one hour. I began to think about all that I was going to need to do. Setting the clocks back an hour was one thing. I put my wrist watch back just after noon on Saturday so I would know exactly what time I would set the clocks.

After we had been out for a bit, I walked into the house and began resetting the clocks. I went from the living room to the kitchen. Then I went through the rest of the house making sure that I was setting the clocks at the right time. It wasn’t long and that part of my job was done.

As I finished I began to think about when the sun would go down and come up. I realized that on Sunday morning the sun would come up just after 7 a.m. and set just before 6 that evening. This would bring about a change that would make things different.

Then I realized that we would also experience a full moon that evening. Since it was the second full moon in October it was a ‘blue moon’. I would even step out later and take a picture of that full moon. It was so bright that it seemed to light up the night sky. As I looked into the night sky and saw that bright moon it made me think.

God sent His Son into a world that was filled with the darkness of sin. He sent Him to be the One that would show the way to eternal life. Jesus said in John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

With all that is taking place in our world at this time, it seems as if there is so much darkness all around us. The issues that we are facing seem to cast darkness all around us. At every turn the darkness seems to take away any light that might be there. And it seems to get greater at every turn. Yet, Jesus remains the ‘light of the world’ and those who follow Him will not walk in darkness.

At one point Jesus spoke to the multitude who asked “Who is the Son of Man?” 35 Jesus therefore said to them, “For a little while longer the light is among you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, in order that may become sons of light.” (John 12:34-35).

The full moon Saturday night didn’t shine like the sun but it did give forth light in the darkness. With all that is taking place in our world it is time for us to let people know that we are the ‘children of light’. It is time for us to let the light of God’s love shine through in the midst of the darkness.

When the days seem so dark because of all that is taking place, just let the ‘light of the world’ shine through your life. As you let Jesus shine through your life, hold to Him and know that He is the light the world needs. So – Let your light shine as you walk through the coming days.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
