Marvin Dean Snider

Marvin Dean Snider, 99, joined his maker on October 5, 2021 when cancer finally got the upper hand. As he always said; “As long as you have your health, you have it all.” He passed away in Oregon where he has resided under the care of his family, but will be returned to his beloved Pampa, Texas to join his wife, Dorothy Snider, in their final resting place at Fairview Cemetery.

Memorial services are pending with Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

He was best known to friends and business associates as M.D., or Snider, and to his family as Pappa. He was born August 29, 1922. He was a self-made man growing up in poverty on the back of a cotton farm, only completing the 5th grade. Later in life he served the Lord as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church, also as an avid believer in second chances shown by his support to the Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, and Texas State Parole Officer. He was also in the Navy CB serving his country in the second World War. Other successes include owning and operating a trucking business, various other farm/ranch related endeavors and retiring on the road in his huge motor home. He enjoyed old western books on tape, western movies, and old country songs. Even in his later years he could tell a story like none other, and man did he have some stories!

He leaves behind a large family of 3 children, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. He was at peace with his 99 years on this earth, and he was looking forward to joining his previously lost family and friends behind the pearly gates.

Though his last check didn’t bounce, he lived his life to the fullest every chance he got. He had a big personality with a big heart. He never let a good-looking lady pass without a compliment, or a rum and coke go undrank. He loved to bring a smile to a stranger’s face, leave $50 tips to the barber for doing a great job, or a server who he saw was struggling with keeping up in a restaurant.

We will miss his stories, his songs, and his whit. Heaven has received a number 1 draft pick this fall.
