Mary Couch, 61, of Pampa, passed away on December 3, 2021 at her home in Pampa with her family by her side.
A Celebration of life memorial service will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Jim Sinyard of the Carpenter’s Church of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Mary was born on February 4, 1960 in Bartlesville, OK to Alice and Orville Whinery, Sr. She grew up and attended school in Pampa, graduating in 1978. After high school she met the love of her life, Al Couch and they later married in 1979. They had two sons, Brock in 1985 and Alex in 1986, who were Mary’s and Al’s life. As the boys got older, Mary went back to school and enrolled at Frank Phillips and later became an LVN. During her nursing career, Mary worked at Pampa Regional Hospital and with Coronado Health Care, later becoming their ADON. After her tenure with Coronado, Mary took a job with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Following her time with TDCJ, Mary went back to work for the hospital but would later have to retire after being diagnosed with ALS.
When Mary wasn’t working, she liked to stay busy gardening and spending time with her dog, Floki. But what brought her the most joy in her life was her family- especially her grandchildren who lovingly called her Mimi. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Orville Whinery, Sr.; a sister, Letha Adams; a nephew, Mikey Anderson; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Harvey and Don Owen.
Her survivors include her husband, Al Couch of the home, two sons, Brock Couch and wife Jade of Little Elm, and Alex Couch and wife Yani of Pampa; her grandchildren, Caelan Couch, Christopher Couch, Aubrey Couch, Liam Couch, and Declan Couch; her mother, Alice Whinery of Pampa; three sisters, Kathryn Harvey of Clovis, NM, Linda Crocker and husband Dwight, of Pampa, and Barbara Owen of Amarillo; two brothers, Johnnie Whinery and wife Pam, and Orville Whinery, Jr. and wife Robin, all of Pampa; her special dog, Floki; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
