Morlan C. “Papaw” Shuman, 85, of White Deer passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 in Amarillo.

Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date. Cremation and arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Morlan was a long-time resident of White Deer and graduated from White Deer High School in 1953. He was an outstanding athlete. Morlan received Honorable Mention Allstate in football and ran at the state track meet in Austin as an anchor on the mile relay team. He married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne Henry, on July 17, 1954. Yvonne was the love of his life and they were together until her death in 2004. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage together and had four children: Morlan Jr., Heidi Roth, Yvette Bryan, and Leia Srader. Morlan held several jobs over the years, most notably being the owner/manager of Farmers Elevator Inc. and as a plant operator for several gas pipeline companies.

Morlan was preceded by his wife; his parents, E.C. and Mildred Shuman, a sister, Judy Shuman; his mother and father-in-law, Burl and Clara Henry, 2 sons-in-law, Billy Srader and Jay Lynn Roth; a grandson, William Morlan Bryan; a sister-in-law, Beverly Moore and brother-in-law, Bob Wells.

He is survived by his children, Morlan Shuman, Jr. of White Deer, Heide Roth of Farmington, NM, Yvette Bryan and Leia Srader both of White Deer; 7 grandchildren, Sarah Lee and husband Jason of Richmond Hills, Georgia, Brittany Shuman-Liberty and husband Shannon of Pampa, Christa LaRue and husband Scott and Amber Fuqua and husband Justin all of Pampa, John Bryan and wife Megan of Canyon, and Chris Roth and Taylor and wife Becca Roth of Farmington, New Mexico; a sister, Phyllis Wells of Casa Grande, Arizona; a brother,-in-law, Wayne Moore of Forgan, Oklahoma; and 13 great-grandchildren, Ethan and Dylan Lee, Raven and Lexi Olney, Brynlee, Sadie, and Jonas Bryan, Suni Roth, Kylan and Erin LaRue, Helton, Bryson, and Laykon Fuqua.

Memorials may be made to the White Deer Senior Citizens, White Deer EMS, or the First United Methodist Church in White Deer.
